BA Newsletter 2/23

*British Accents Radio returns this Sunday from 2-4pm with band new music from THE HOURS, THE BLUETONES, THE VIEW and much more. Tune in around Boston on 91.5 FM and online at www.wmfo.org and iTunes radio - WMFO is under "public".

*MORRISSEY is planning a huge spring US tour slated to start on April 27, although no dates have been announced just yet.

*The two non-famous members of THE JAM are re-uniting under the name of their old band, even though PAUL WELLER will not be involved. As of right now the pair (plus a ringer on lead vocals) are only planning UK dates.

*IDLEWILD's new album "Make Another World" will be released on April 3 in the US on Sanctuary.

*JARVIS COCKER has added another NYC show - he'll be at Webster Hall on April 22 in addition to the 23rd.

*THE PIPETTES have added another NYC date, playing on March 11 at Luna Lounge, where they'll also be on the 12th.

*RUBICKS will be coming over to the US for a handful of shows in March, including South By Southwest plus March 12 at Pianos in NY.

*PLACEBO will play a show in Boston on April 6 at Roxy, so enjoy rocking out to "Infra-Red" with a $7 Budweiser in your hand.

*THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH have called it a career after many albums and a long successful run on the UK charts. The band cited "musical similarities" as one of the reasons behind their split. Perhaps this will pave the way for a HOUSEMARTINS reunion?

*ASH will release their new album in July in the UK, described in NME as being musically poppier but lyrically darker. The lead single from the album will be "You Can't Have It All", which is expected to be released in May or June. In the meantime, download a brand new song called "I Started a Fire" here: myfreedownload.co.uk/ash

*Staying in on Saturday? Got DV-R or Tivo? Then you can catch ARCADE FIRE on Saturday Nigh Live this weekend.

BA Newsletter 2.8.07

*British Accents once again has a new time slot - the show will return to a former time slot of 2-4pm (eastern) on Sunday afternoons, in a familiar place following "Galactic Fractures". The new schedule takes effect for this weekend, so tune in to hear new music from CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY, THE BLUETONES and much more.

*This week's bounty - a prize pack for THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE QUEEN, courtesy of The Fader and Cornerstone. 1 winner will receive a copy of the new album, a band poster, some stickers AND a rare, limited-pressing (500 only) 7" single from the Fader/Southern Comfort series. To win, be the first to respond with your full name, mailing address and answer to this question - what was the peak chart position of the "Herculean" single when it was released in the UK last fall?
While you're at it, check out the brand new Fader Magazine download and Podcast here: http://www.thefader.com/blog/articles/category/podcasts

*The full lineup for this year's South By Southwest music festival has been announced - check it out at www.sxsw.com - there's so many bands playing I couldn't possibly list them all. It would be easier to print a list of who's NOT playing.

*Speaking of THE BLUETONES, they'll release their first US album since 1996 on February 13 - the self-titled effort that came out in the UK last year. Cooking Vinyl is the label bringing us our first non-import taste of the band in 11 years, and will also be releasing SEAFOOD's latest effort on the same day.

*MORRISSEY fans are taking advantage of the UK chart authority's new rules on downloaded tracks counting toward the charts by making a push for the Moz track "Life is a Pigsty", from his album released last year. www.getmozinthecharts.vze.com to check it out or participate.

*THE KLAXONS will tour the US this spring, stopping at Great Scott in Boston on April 11, Bowery Ballroom on April 10, and in SF at popscene on April 26. The band's album will be released March 27 in the US.

*THE ARCTIC MONKEYS have announced details for their second album. "Favourite Worst Nightmare" will be released on April 23 in the UK, with the US date tba.

*ROB DICKINSON, the velvety voice behind CATHERINE WHEEL and now a solo act, will play a show at the Paradise Lounge on February 26.

*TRAVIS are back with their first album since 2003, titled "The Boy With No Name". It'll be released on May 7 in the UK with no US release date announced yet. The lead single "Closer" hits import bins on April 23.

*Want to join THE WRENS? Got pro chops, pro gear, and a pro 'tude? The legendary New Jersey indie rock band is looking for a fifth member to join them on some songs, which will allow the band to play songs they're unable to do live because there are too many parts for a quartet to pull off. Email 5th_wren@wrens.com and then head over to the band's website www.wrens.com and learn some songs.

*VOXTROT return to Boston, but not until June 14, when they play the Middle East downstairs. The best Britpop Texas has ever given us...

*Catch PAUL WELLER on Conan O'Brien this Thursday, and pick up his new DVD in stores this week.

*Don't feel like driving down to Providence to catch TV ON THE RADIO? Well, by popular demand, the band has announced a Boston show the following day - they'll be at Avalon on March 2.

*CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH have announced a new US tour, but it's skipping most of the major cities in favor of places like Providence (Lupo's on April 10) and Northampton, MA (Pearl Street on April 11).

*The newly re-formed KULA SHAKER have hopped on the podcast bandwagon, which can be downloaded at http://www.kulashakermusic.com/media/kulashakerpodcast01.mp3

*STELLASTARR* have parted ways with their label, RCA, after two albums together. The band is quoted as saying the management structure of the label has changed drastically since they joined the roster, but I'm sure that weak sales of the band's second album had something to do with it too.

*Missed out on tickets THE PIPETTES at Bowery Ballroom? The band is doing another show in New York the night before (March 12) - check 'em out at the Luna Lounge.

*HOT HOT HEAT will release a new album in May, says the NME.

BA Newsletter 2.1.07

*WMFO is rescheduling this week so stay tuned for an update on the future possible show time of British Accents Radio.

*THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE QUEEN have announced a handful of US dates,
including March 12 at Webster Hall in NYC. The band will also be at South By Southwest in Austin.

*JARVIS COCKER has announced a handful of North American dates. In addition to Coachella, he'll be at Webster Hall in NYC on April 23 and The Fillmore in SF on April 28. No word on a Boston show right now.

*Wondering why the CAMERA OBSCURA show at the Paradise in Boston last weekend took awhile to get started? Reports from a reliable source point to this as the reason: the club manager apparently had to run down to the local police precinct to bail out one of the band members, who was reportedly caught shoplifting at the Shaw's down the street. They didn't make any mention of it onstage and the story hasn't leaked to the press, so for now it's a BA exclusive in the unsubstantiated rumor mill.

*Congrats to THE SHINS, who came in at #2 on the Billboard charts in their first week of release. For one week anyway, indie rock reigns supreme over corporate rock. We'll see about next week.

*Tickets for the May 13 KOOKS show at the Paradise in Boston go onsale at noon on February 3 through Ticketmaster.

*A new photography exhibition in New York called "Irregular Regulars" focuses on MORRISSEY and a photographer who trailed the reclusive mope rocker for several years. The show will run until February 10 at Team Gallery in Soho. For west coast Moz fans, he's playing 3 shows in Pasadena at the Civic Auditorium on February 1, 2 and 3.

*PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES have announced they're splitting up after their drummer gave his notice. No word on whether the band will complete their final tour or not.

*Apparently THE TEARS either flopped or was just meant to be a one time deal, because BRETT ANDERSON is doing the solo thing now. His new single "Love is Dead" is out in early March and the self-titled debut is due on March 26 in the UK.

*THE CINEMATICS will tour the US this spring, stopping by Axis in Boston March 11, The Gramercey Theatre in NY on March 13, and out to Slim's in SF on April 24. The debut "A Strange Education" is out in March.

*THE LONG BLONDES' debut album "Someone To Drive You Home" finally gets a US release this week.

*Glasgow's SONS & DAUGHTERS return to the states for a date at Bowery on April 4.

*THE HORRORS will make another attempt at playing Boston on March 13 when they're expected at Great Scott. They'll also be at Bowery Ballroom on March 10 with the FILMS.

*Catch a cool Scottish twin bill on April 4 at the Middle East upstairs with AEREOGRAMME and TWILIGHT SAD.

*Irish rockers THE FRAMES release their new album "The Cost" on February 20 in the US. Some tour dates have been announced too - Fillmore on April 7, Somerville Theatre on April 22, and Town Hall on April 24.

*ALEX KAPRANOS of FRANZ FERDINAND has joined THE CRIBS in the studio as the band works on their major label debut. The Cribs, as you might recall, opened for FFF on a US tour last year.

*THE DANDY WARHOLS have been added to the lineup of this year's Noise Pop Festival in SF.

*BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB will release their next album, "Baby 81" on May 1.

*THE KLAXONS debut album "Myths of the Near Future" will be released in late April here in the US, around the time of their Coachella appearance.

*Last Sunday's British Accents Radio playlist can be viewed online here:
http://www.spinitron.com/public/index.php?station=wmfo&month=Jan&year=2007&plid=3954
...and, if you go to www.wmfo.org to the schedule page and click on "last show" for British Accents, you can download the most recent show in case you missed it on Sunday.
